Below is a showcase, 2nd to 6th grade, of student work in ceramics class. Some classes were given the same projects as an attempt to see the artistic development between ages. Others were challenged with different projects according to their ages. It is my belief students who challenge themselves and explore with this material early move on to become more confident and adventurous in other art form mediums.

Dream Slabs: while rather abstracted by the materials of wax and ink, my 3rd graders were challenged with the method of scoring clay (scratching hatch marks into it as part of joining clay pieces together). Their goal was to recreate a dream that they had and score multiple pieces of clay to their clay slabs. Once colored with crayons, I dipped their creations into ink, where it rolled off the wax- creating a dark, dreamy, and modern look to elementary art.
